Build and edit Quform forms by chatting with an AI assistant, right inside the Quform form builder.
1. What you need
- WordPress 5.8 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
- The Quform plugin, installed and active.
- A Quform AI licence with credits from quform.com. The plugin does nothing without one.
- Your website must be able to make outgoing connections to
quform.com(almost all hosts allow this).
2. Install and activate
- Buy a package at quform.com. After checkout, your licence key is in My Account → Licenses, and the plugin zip is in My Account → Downloads.
- Link your website. In My Account → Licenses, type your site’s domain (for example
example.com, nohttps://needed), tick I agree to the terms of use, and press Save domain. A licence only works on its linked domain. - Install the plugin. In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the Quform AI zip, then Install Now and Activate.
- Enter your key. Go to Forms → Quform AI, paste your licence key, press Save Settings, then Verify. You should see a green tick.
- Test the connection. On the same page press Test AI connection. “Connected” means everything is ready.
3. Using the AI Assistant
Open the assistant
Edit any form in Quform (Forms → Forms → Edit), or create a new one. In the builder’s icon bar, next to the Form and Settings icons, click the sparkle icon. The AI Assistant panel opens.
Ask for what you want
Type a request in plain language and press Enter, for example:
- “Create a contact form with name, email, phone and message, and a dropdown for the reason for contact.”
- “Put first name and last name side by side, and make the form look clean and modern in green.”
- “Show the Company field only when ‘Business’ is selected.”
- “Send the notification to sales@example.com and set the reply-to to the visitor’s email.”
The assistant makes the changes in the builder so you can see them straight away.
The controls under the chat
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Plan | The assistant plans the work and shows it for review before building. For big jobs it splits the work into tasks that you run one at a time. |
| Power | Uses the more powerful AI model for complex forms. It costs more credits per message and can take longer. |
| Restore | When on (the default), a restore point is saved before each change. |
| Restore… | Pick a restore point to undo the assistant’s changes. Then press Save if you want to keep the restored version. |
| Tasks | The saved task list for this form. Start a task to load it into the chat, then Activate it to build. |
| + (New task) | While on, your messages are planned into tasks and added to the list instead of being built right away. Turn it off to build directly. |
| Check form (wrench icon) | Reviews the whole form for typos, styling and contrast problems, setting mistakes, broken logic and custom-code issues. It doesn’t change anything. It lists what it found and adds fix tasks to the list. |
| Credits | Shown on the right. Each message uses credits. Top up any time from your account at quform.com. |
Custom CSS and JavaScript
The assistant styles forms with Quform’s own theme and style settings, so the styling saves with the form. For effects those settings can’t do, it gives you a short code block and tells you where to paste it: Forms → Settings → Custom CSS & JS. It can’t paste that code for you.
4. Tips for good results
- Big job? Use Plan. A whole multi-page form in one message is slower and more likely to time out. Plan splits it into steps.
- One area at a time for edits: fields, then layout, then styling, then logic.
- Use the field labels you can see (“the Email field”, “the Budget dropdown”) so the assistant changes the right thing.
- Run Check form before you publish a form.
- Always test the form on the front end before publishing. AI can make mistakes.
5. Server settings for best results
Most requests finish in well under a minute, but large forms or Power mode can take up to about 3 minutes. While that happens, your browser waits on your own website, and your website waits on the AI service. If anything in between gives up first, the chat shows The request timed out.
| Setting | Recommended | Where |
|---|---|---|
PHP max_execution_time | 180 seconds or more | php.ini, .user.ini or the host’s PHP settings |
| Nginx + PHP-FPM | fastcgi_read_timeout 180s; | Server or site config |
| Nginx as a reverse proxy | proxy_read_timeout 180s; | Server or site config |
| Apache | Timeout 180 (and ProxyTimeout 180 or FcgidIOTimeout 180 if PHP runs through a proxy or FastCGI) | Apache config |
| LiteSpeed / other | PHP request / connection timeout of 180 seconds | Ask your host |
| Outgoing connections | Allow HTTPS to quform.com | Firewall, or WP_ACCESSIBLE_HOSTS if WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL is set |
Example for Nginx:
location ~ \.php$ {
# ... your existing PHP settings ...
fastcgi_read_timeout 180s;
}Cloudflare and other CDNs
- Use Normal mode and Plan for big jobs. Smaller steps finish well within the limit.
- Make sure Cloudflare doesn’t cache or challenge
/wp-admin/and/wp-json/. - If you often hit the limit, ask your developer about reaching wp-admin through an address that isn’t proxied by Cloudflare.
Security and caching plugins
- Security / firewall plugins (for example Wordfence, Sucuri, iThemes) must allow logged-in administrators to use
/wp-json/quform-ai/. If the chat says Your website blocked the request (HTTP 403), allow-list that path. - Caching plugins (for example W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache) should never cache
/wp-admin/or/wp-json/. Most exclude these by default. - Some hosts block the REST API for everyone. Quform AI needs it for logged-in admins.
6. Troubleshooting
